Tara Reid Sharknado performance not enough for return in sequel

Tara Reid Sharknado performance not enough for return in sequel
From MSN Now

Toney Atkins comments: AWWWWW! Poor Tara. Admittedly, I still haven't sat through the whole SyFy movie despite its repeats, and I probably won't spend money to see it on the big screen at midnight shows as the studio takes advantage of the Twitter-induced craze. I certainly hope that the sequel will be better than the original, although being really bad is being really good these days, especially on SyFy.

UPDATE: I like the movies that ombine chills and smiles: Take "Big=Assed Spider," for instance, premiered April 19, 2014. The title screams "awful," I found the effort to be a fun diversion. It was flawed, of course, but was a little bit scary. The characters worked well together in some outrageous situations and the humor was intended. I didn't fall asleep during it, as I did on two occasions of trying to watch "Sharknado." Based on the closing scene, the spider hero will next be fighting giant cockroaches, with more  hokey, but fun to watch, special effects.
REMINDER: "Sharknado 2" is coming to SyFy in July 2014.

Toney Atkins comments: Anyone who wonders why I've posted so much about Chickamauga, GA, doesn't know that I proudly call it my home town. I grew up there, graduated from Gordon Lee Memorial High School and later enjoyed some of the best years of my life teaching many terrific youngsters in grades five through seven at Chickamauga Elementary School (1967-1971). After teaching another year at North Rossville (GA) Elementary School, I vacationed in Florida, where I essentially was handed my first job in journalism, starting as a police reporter, progressing to entertainment writer and editor and then to county and city editor at a mainstream newspaper.

I lived in Chickamauga for 29 years and occasionally still yearn for the good old days of small town life where the living was relatively carefree, moved at a leisure pace and full of Southern hospitality.

I'm amazed at how much of the town/s history that I wasn't taught when I lived there, but learned about recently. Maybe my teachers tried to inform me, but being a typical kid, I simply took for granted the atmosphere as it was at the time, while every day, I was walking on or driving through a hallowed land that was jam-packed with history, a battlefield where much violence was wrought and much blood was spilled.

The upcoming observances of the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Chickamauga during the Civil War excite me and I want to share that excitement. If you want to visit a small Southern town steeped in history, I encourage you to see Chickamauga.

(Did you know that the Civil War battle was named not for the town, but for Chickamauga Creek? The area was known as Crawfish Springs during the War Between the States. A crystal clear spring flows from an area just east of the Gordon-Lee Mansion, a plantation built before the war which still stands an historic landmark. The water from the springs eventually flows into Chickamauga Creek.)

CatWalkChatt - Crystal Springs Print Works in Chickamauga shuttered

CatWalkChatt - Crystal Springs Print Works in Chickamauga shuttered
From CatWalkChatt.com

Toney Atkins comments: Another big piece of my personal history apparently has died. The once bustling cotton mill and bleachery (formerly known as Crystal Springs Bleachery) operated 24 hours a day, and it provided most Chickamaugans with jobs and rental homes. My parents, grandmother, several aunts, uncles and cousins all worked at the plant during the time that I was born and until at least a few years after I was graduated from Gordon Lee Memorial High School. I was employed there as a laborer in the bleachery and then in its laboratory for two years before deciding to attend college. Except for the period of his service during World War II, my father worked at this heartbeat of the town most of his life. A few years after he retired from a supervisory position, he returned to the plant to work as a security guard. Many if not most of my friends and classmates lived in the "mill villages" that were built by the operation, one on either side of the lake that was spawned by crystal clear underground springs that flowed from a cavern just south of downtown. Learning about the business' closure saddens me, but it makes me happy to know that the small town of Chickamauga and its citizenry live on.

MY FI, WI-FI --Health Issue and Wi-Fi Woes May Limit Posts

By TONEY ATKINS

Due to several immediate and impending issues, I may not be able to keep my blogs as up to date as I would like, at least for what I hope will be a short time.
The Wi-Fi at my apartment complex is experiencing serious problems, and I have no idea as to when it might be repaired.
On a more personal level, my doctor has discovered through some tests that my kidneys are suffering some disconcerting problems. I have another test on Monday, an MRI, I think it is (I haven't watched "House" lately, so I am not up to date on medical machines). I then have an appointment with a kidney specialist. The problem is obviously more than an infection, but I'm praying it can be fixed. Your prayers would be appreciated, too. (I have brought this potential problem up to my doctor and physician assistants for more than a year, but it took something that showed up in blood work to get them to take action.)
Meanwhile, I will update my blogs and web site (www.toneyatkins.com) whenever possible, and I hope you will continue to visit. (I'm delighted to report that two of my blogs, What I Think About That and The World Around Me, have both passed the 20,000 page view mark, and most of those have been in the past three months. Thank you!)

P.S. FROM TONEY ATKINS: I can be contacted at toneyatkins@gmail.com . Please type BLOG as the first word in the subject line if you write so I can make it priority reading.

10 SyFy Channel movies that are just as ridiculous as Sharknado - The Week

10 SyFy Channel movies that are just as ridiculous as Sharknado - The Week
From TheWeek.com

Toney Atkins comments: I almost hate to admit it, but I sat through "Two-Headed Shark Attack" in the wee hours of this morning. It was so bad that I was compelled to see it through to the end. Cheesy special effects and a lack of plot continuity, bad dialogue, and terrible acting all had to compete with some of the biggest breasted young women and biggest biceps and pec-endowed young men ever to be cast in a single science-fiction movie. And to think I never submitted a script to Hollywood! Surely, if not made into a major motion picture, I could depend on it showing up on SyFy. A rerun of "Sharknado" followed,  with even worse potential than any of the others named in the article at the link. I lasted about ten minutes and decided to do my laundry, a chore that I hate. I suppose I am indeed old, because these offerings are obviously geared toward juvenile minds that do not know any better, and I would hope that even teens would laugh and moan at such horrible horror.
