The only folks they want to keep healthy are themselves, the rich and the bank accounts of the rich. Laws for the common man, the poor and the needy? Republicans don't care about people, or at least, their record in recent years doesn't show it. They had rather filibuster in their cowardice than show their true colors by actually letting their constituents know how they vote. How will they resolve the problems caused by the sequester? Don't hold your breath -- but, then again, some of them would probably like to see you turn blue so you would be one less poor, sick citizen they wouldn't have to care about. And some of you Democratic representatives and senators? You're not much better. When are all of you going to prove that you seriously care about the people who comprise the United States?

REFLECTING ON THE PASSING OF MY FIRST LOVE: ANNETTE
Disney child star Annette Funicello dies at age 70
From NBCNews.com
Toney Atkins writes: I am in shock and mourning with the news of Annette Funicello's passing. Annette was my first dream girl, my first fantasy girlfriend, the girl who made me realize in my early adolescence that I indeed was becoming a man. She changed the whole meaning of the "Mickey Mouse Club" for me, and my eyes were to become glued whenever she graced the television screen. That time of day was ours, and I loved it. Annette was the perfect representative of peaches and cream innocence accompanying an unmatched physical beauty. When her name was on the marquee for a Walt Disney movie, I would scramble to be first in line to buy a ticket, and the dates who accompanied me had no knowledge that my heart belonged not to them, but to Annette. Later, I would follow her into those ridiculously silly "Beach Party" movies, in which the idiotic plots didn't matter. Annette was there. She might not have had the greatest singing voice, but could have been the star of my karaoke shows in later years, with no doubt in my mind. Annette Funicello, you made my young life richer and bring warm, beautiful memories as I go into my golden years. M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E, I sing, dedicating it with love to you, Annette.

Toney Atkins comments: Oh, come on, America! How tiny have our brains become that many get all out of shape because the president observed that a woman is "good looking"? Based on all of the idiotic, unnecessary news coverage of the comment, you would think that North Korea does not have missiles aimed at Americans in the Pacific, that we do not have politicians in office who have fought nearly every job creation or exonomic improvement suggestion offered by the president, that guns do notcontinue to kill more and more citizens of this country every day or that many white people do not still hate blacks and don't really resent the fact that the president is black. I believe most women are lovely and I used that word many times to introduce ladies participating in my karaoke shows when I was DJing part-time. Most of them seemed to appreciate the genuine compliment and none of them complained. The president has described other women and men as "good looking" and there was no uproar or complaint from those who were complimented. Have we gotten so small in our thinking that such an innocent and truthful comment can cause us to make this a major news story, or is it just that our blatant racism and sexism has finally come out of the closet for all to see?

Miss an episode of "The Bible" or "Vikings"? Check out the above link.
Toney Atkins comments: I kept feeling that I was watching a Reader's Digest-style version of the Bible and occasionally had trouble keeping up with some of the Old Testament characters. They weren't around long enough to work up emotional attachments. However, the acting was adequate and many of the visual effects were awesome. If I were grading the entire show, I would have to give a B-plus to the Old Testament episodes but a hard A once the New Testament kicked in and Jesus appeared on the scene. More spirit seemed to fill the concluding chapters, with fine, believable acting and more of the message coming through. Dramatic special effects added to the emotional tribulations of Jesus, His human death on the cross, and the wonder of His Resurrection. The DVD and Blu-Ray versions of the majestic production, minus commercials for Viagra, rum and other distractions in the televised version, will be available for sale or rent (in some places) on Tuesday, April 2, 2013. Highly recommended for church and home audiences.

Toney Atkins comments: Why all the fuss about gay marriage? Back in the day, most heterosexuals fell in love, got married and stayed married, loving, honoring and obeying, till death did they part -- or so it appeared on the surface. Since the time that I was young, naïve and gullible, most of the straight folks I have known and to this day either just live together or actually do get married, stay together for awhile, then go on to what they think are "greener pastures," and divorce is a way of life. I know some people who have been married four or five times, and that is not an exaggeration. The kids often don't know who their real dad is, and some aren't really sure about mom. I don't remember too many single parents when I was a child. Christian preachers don't preach much about adultery, because they know they would lose a large part of their congregations if adultery was designated as great a "sin" as homosexuality, which is more common inside and outside the churches, even the evangelistic ones, as most would like to believe. So why marry, gay folks? Play around like the straight people do and don't worry about having to get a divorce when you get tired of your alleged "other half." At least, you're not being hypocritical.

BOOGIE YOUR WAY INTO SPRING AND SUMMER

So far, my downstairs neighbors haven’t complained about their ceiling falling in.
I created a dance music list for parties and for doing some moving and grooving to the beat to lose some pounds and get my shoddy body in shape and into a sexy physique for an old man. I’ll let you know later on in the spring and summer if it works.
In the meantime, I invite you to boogie with me with music based on a custom playlist that I have created on Slacker Radio. I’m not sure how they’re doing it these days, but you can listen to the station for free or the actual playlist, minus rare commercial interruptions, for a small monthly fee. If you become a premium member, you can save and even add to my playlist plus create your own custom stations and playlists.
So, if you are ready to get down and boogie and shake your groove thing to get your already beautiful bod in shape for the lake or the beach, feel free to do it the way you like it and listen and move to the following link. You can even share it with friends who are in more pathetic shape that you envision yourself as being.

TONEY ATKINS WRITES: Sorry I had to miss one of the most outstanding events in Daytona Beach. I had the pleasure of watching the event grow between 1972 and 2005, during which I met many of the nicest people from all walks of life from all over the nation and the world. If you have never been part of the motorcycle spectacle, perhaps you should think about experiencing it next year. The wrap-up of events at the link above is from my journalistic "alma mater," the Daytona Beach News-Journal.

CPAC Participant Defends Slavery At Minority Outreach Panel: It Gave ‘Food And Shelter’ To Blacks
The above link is to a report at ThinkProgress.org
Toney Atkins opines: The Republican Party would like to make slaves of everyone who makes less than $500,000 a year. I only pray that responsible, intelligent citizens realize or will at least come to realize just how regressive the Republicans have become and come to acknowledge that the GOP "values" aren't as Christian or Godlike as they would like for everyone to believe. God bless America -- PLEASE!!!!

Lawmakers angered at U.S. military's handling of sex assault problem
Lawmakers angered at U.S. military's handling of sex assault problem
From NBC News.com
Toney Atkins writes: Rape victims in the military include men as well as women, and it's about time that lawmakers addressed this invisible scandal. The men and women who put their well-being and their very lives on the line for their country do not deserve the trauma of being sexually abused (raped) within their ranks and having that horror swept under the rug.

My MUSIC STATION MASHUP
TONEY'S FAVORITE MIX STATION ON SLACKER
The above link is to my favorite mix station of a wide variety of music from stations and playlists that I created on Slacker Radio. It includes songs from some of my favorite artists (and yours, too, I'll bet) and the genres I have loved over my many decades of enjoying music. From the old to the new, there's something for everyone.
Slacker Radio is free, but includes a few short occasional ads. If you subscribe, you get commercial free music. This reference is totally unsolicited and I receive no compensation, just the joy of creating my own "radio" stations, something I wanted to do since I was a kid. Enjoy, and you can find other more specific genres on my www.toneyatkins.com/ web site.
Tell someone you love him or her. You will find blessings coming your way.

Toney Atkins writes: This new "superbug" so far is immune to all antibiotics. Is this a new example of science-fiction becoming science fact? A terrifying thought -- especially for hypochondriacs.
KIDNEY STONES: 'Worse than childbirth' - CNN.com
Kidney stones: 'Worse than childbirth' - CNN.com
From CNN.com ... WARNING: The following may cause cringing:
Toney Atkins writes: Ouch and ouch again! Men who have never passed a kidney stone need to read the CNN report, because I can testify the truth of it -- although I honestly can't speak on the childbirth pain thing since I have never been and never plan to be pregnant. I have experienced several stones over the past 40 or so years, and none of them were fun as they moved around and especially when they painfully ejected. Even as I write, I have inside me a kidney stone that, according to X-rays, is so large that several doctors, including a specialist, say that I will likely be calling 9-1-1 if it ever tries to pass because it may get stuck in my urinary tract. Heaven only knows how long it has been there, but it has occasionally caused back and side pain for a couple of years. Sorry to be so graphic, but that's the way it is. There are treatments to break apart kidney stones, I am told, but all of them would cause some bleeding, so my specialist refuses to do it because I have been on blood thinner for more than two years and anything that he would do could, and I emphasize "could," cause me to bleed out, or so he says. The article at the above link gives some important information about symptoms, along with some steps individuals can take to prevent these more-than-pesky stones.
How Economic Inequality Could Take A Bigger Toll On Veterans’ Mental Health Than Warfare Itself
How Economic Inequality Could Take A Bigger Toll On Veterans’ Mental Health Than Warfare Itself: pA new study on mental health in war-ravaged Afghanistan conducted by researchers at the Washington University in St. Louis comes to a jarring conclusion: socioeconomic indicators such as poverty and social vulnerability are more telling risk factors for mental illness than even exposure to warfare. While the study in question is centered on Afghans’ mental [...]/p
