KUDOS TO WEATHERMAN PAUL BARYS: Video Landing Page - WRCBtv.com | Chattanooga News, Weather & Sports
http://www.wrcbtv.com/category/214449/video-landing-page?clipId=9783155&autostart=true
TONEY COMMENTS: Meteorologist Paul Barys of WRCB, Channel 3, in Chattanooga, TN, is to be commended for acknowledging embarrassment and apologizing on Wednesday evening for his not-totally-accurate forecast late Monday that failed to predict the potential that the expected snow and ice storm would reach this far north. Having watched all three local weather-casts on the late night news, and on several channels for their early morning news Tuesday, it seemed to me that all stations, INCLUDING THE WEATHER CHANNEL, were underplaying the possible serious winter storm impacts above or even in Atlanta. Neighbors, and even my pharmacist (when I picked up some prescriptions after midnight Monday) can verify that my personal forecast, based on my passion for weather and watching radars and weather patterns, were that I feared we could well get at least a fairly serious storm. I went to bed between 5 and 6 a.m. Tuesday, still with no severe threats being given for Southeast Tennessee and Northwest Georgia. However, AccuWeather radars on my blogs indicated to me that ice and snow indeed were heading our way. When I awoke at noon, I opened the door to see a white parking lot and wooded area beyond. Cars in the lot were covered in snow and ice, and traffic was crawling on Interstate 75 south of Chattanooga.
Paul's apology is accepted and I say KUDOS. He is the only TV weatherman I've heard who has been man or woman enough to admit that he erred. -- Toney Atkins

SURPRISE PARALYZING SOUTHERN WINTER STORM photos, stories. Never fear. The South will rise again, or at least warm up in the next few days. We are just not prepared for this kind of weather. We feel for our Northern friends, but we don't want their ice and snow. (Super Bowl forecast also given. Let's hope it is correct.)

$90 cut to food stamps proposed for 850,000 - Jan. 17, 2014
From CNN.com
Toney comments: I've had to go on a Ramen Noodle diet since my monthly food stamp allocation was dropped from $17 a month to $15 a month. The rich and the haves don't give a darn about the poor. hurting have-nots ... and there are many, many and, did I say many of us out here who have to depend on the kindnesses of strangers in churches, at food banks and other charities just for basic survival .... something most of us never dreamed we would have to do when we considered our Golden Years during our younger days. We nee-to start giving our congress-people a hard time about this issue before this year's elections, not that it would do any good.

’Only getting colder’: Blast of frigid air set to smash records
From NBCNews.com
Toney comments: Most of northwest Georgia, parts of Tennessee and Alabama lucked out with very little snow and serious ice on the roads during this storm, but BRRRRR. Low temperatures may break records, down near 0 degrees Monday night and in the teens Tuesday night, with daytime highs in the 20s, made colder by winds. Oh, to be on the beach in Daytona!
